It's hard to believe 2017 has already passed! While I'm trying to plan some things for 2018, I always like taking a look back at the previous year and where I was able to go.
In 2017, I traveled to Charleston/Isle of Palms (numerous times), Athens (three times), London (to celebrate my birthday!), Kiawah Island, Winston-Salem, and Orlando/Walt Disney World. Looking back, I'm so thankful for all the trips I was able to take and the time I was able to spend with friends and family. Here are a few highlights:
March - London
While in London, my dad and I made a special trip to see Arsenal play. We're both big soccer fans, so it was amazing to not only attend a game, but also to go with my dad. It was a quick trip across the pond, but we still managed to get a lot of sightseeing in! Dinner at SkyGarden, a visit to Kensington Palace to see the Princess Diana exhibition, and shopping were a few highlights. Not to mention finally grabbing dinner at the Churchill Arms! I'd love to go back and see it in full bloom in the summer.
June - Orlando/Walt Disney World
As a family we headed down to Orlando for a few days in June. Even though it was HOT, it was still a blast. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Kidani Lodge and visited Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. I hadn't been to Walt Disney World in a number of years, so it was fun to go back. My favorite park to explore was Animal Kingdom since I had not been before.
August - Kiawah Island
Even though I go to Charleston/Isle of Palms often, I've always wanted to explore Kiawah Island. I was lucky that a friend organized a quick girls weekend in August. We stayed in a house on the marsh, and it was calming and beautiful. Kiawah Island is truly an escape - we're lucky it's so close to Charlotte!
October/November - Athens, Georgia
As we all know by now, I'm a huge UGA fan. Having spent almost 7 years in Athens (between my undergrad and graduate degrees), I pretty much bleed red and black. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the season the Bulldogs had! I'm lucky enough to make it down for 2 - 3 games each season, and this year did not disappoint. There's nothing quite like a Saturday in Athens!
December - Charleston/Isle of Palms
While I missed the Bomb Cyclone hitting the Charleston area by one day, I was nonetheless able to experience a chilly New Year's Eve holiday at the coast. While visiting the area, I made a trip to Boone Hall Plantation, had dinner at Husk (tip: the bar at Husk has a limited (but delicious) menu and does not require reservations; get there right when it opens, grab a table, have a few drinks and enjoy dinner!), lunch at Poogan's Porch followed by shopping down King Street, and was able to take a few chilly walks along the beach. It really was the perfect way to ring in 2018!
What do you have planned for 2018? Right now I know I'll be headed to Charleston and Athens (my staples - are y'all tired of hearing about them?), with a trip overseas potentially happening in a few months!
