Over the weekend I visited the Ritz Carlton Spa and Wellness Center in Uptown Charlotte. According to the website, visitors can expect to “Discover true uptown luxury at the The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Charlotte.” At the spa, “tailored spa experiences integrate guest needs and preferences with treatments brought to life by specialists who deliver a bespoke and undeniably unique experience. Featuring a holistic approach to wellness, the spa features five treatment rooms, including a couple’s suite, ladies’ and gentlemen’s Vitality Lounges, a state-of-the-art fitness center, Wi-Fi–enabled Aqua Lounge with a swimming pool and whirlpool, a salt room, and a nail salon.”
I’ve been once before for a bachelorette party, so I knew I wanted to go back for a relaxing day again. A few weeks ago I booked a 50 minute relaxation massage in the afternoon, knowing I wanted to spend the day enjoying the other services available to spa guests. I got to the Ritz mid-morning, and immediately grabbed a cup of coffee in the ladies' Vitality Lounge while finishing “Love Lives Here” by Maria Goff. After this I set out on a planning session for the next few months. Recently, I’ve been working with a career coach (more to come on that later), so I had some directives I wanted to knock out. To do this, I brought my laptop, a notebook, and my 2018 planner with me (yes, I still use a physical planner!). After working with a career coach for a few weeks I felt like I needed to take a day to process all we’ve talked about, as well as take the time to plan out a few things (including blog content). I decided to leave my cell phone in my locker downstairs so I wouldn’t get *too* distracted. In general, the spa staff encourage leaving your phone on silent!
After grabbing lunch in the Aqua Lounge, I headed down to the ladies’ Vitality Lounge to get ready for my appointment. Before my massage I took advantage of the salt room, as well as the sauna. The Spa offers a wide variety of treatments, which can be viewed here. I booked the basic relaxation massage and it was one of the best massages I’ve had. Following my massage, I spent some time in the Relaxation Room - a quiet space on the second floor of the spa. This was a great way to end my time at the spa.
While visiting the Ritz Spa is definitely an indulgent experience, it’s a great option to have in the Charlotte area. I don’t go often (in fact, this was only my second visit in the past 6 years since I moved back to Charlotte), but I would highly recommend booking a service if you’re in the Charlotte area. Located on the 17th and 18th floors of the Ritz in Uptown Charlotte, you’ll get to experience a relaxing setting within an urban environment. While the services are amazing (I’ve now had a relaxation massage and the ultimate honey & chocolate manicure and pedicure), the setting is also relaxing and beautiful. Additionally, the meals I’ve had while visiting the spa are all high quality and the service is hard to beat.
In the future, I’d love to book a staycation at the Ritz that includes: scheduling a spa day, cocktails at the Punch Room, dinner at BLT Steak, dessert at Bar Cocoa, and generally enjoying time in Uptown Charlotte. If I were ever to stay over a weekend, I’d love to do the Wine Blending Experience in the Hidden Wine boutique!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, or like you really need a day “off” to process things or just think, a spa day is a great way to do this. However, I recognize that spa days can be pricey, and not accessible for everyone. In the past I’ve spent a few hours at a local coffee shop, or carved out time on a Saturday or Sunday to relax in my own home. But, if a spa day is within your budget, make sure you take full advantage of all they have to offer! Usually you can spend more time at a spa than just your scheduled appointment.
